Dance and fitness classes for adults of different abilities, creative children's workshops and specialised classes for people living with Parkinson’s disease.

Adult dance classes

Class information

Beginner Ballet 

A mix of ballet, stretch and strengthening exercises. Improve posture, core strength and coordination through the principles of classical ballet. This class is suitable for both beginner adults and those with some experience in dance. At the end of term participants and their partners get together for a meal and often meet for coffee after class.

When:

Tuesdays, 11am - 12pm with optional 15 minute extension

Term 1 commences 4 February

Where:

Largs School of Arts, 27 High St, Largs.

Cost:

$15 for one hour or $20 for the extended class. 

Dance Fitness Fusion

A mix of Latin, jazz, fitness and movement. Build cardio, strength and endurance through a variety of styles in a measured and fun way. Suitable for both beginner adults and those with some experience in dance. It can be tailored to match various levels, as the routines are repeated and built on over a series of weeks, before moving to different routines.

When:

Thursdays, 10 - 11am

Term 1 commences 6 February

Where:

Largs School of Arts, 27 High St, Largs.

Cost:

$15 per class. 

Tailored mobility classes

Low Mobility Dance Fitness Fusion

A mix of exercise, movement and dance, this class is designed for adults with mobility challenges. The varied dance music is inspiring, fun and uplifting and while it is not a therapy session, you may find that you leave feeling better in mind, body and spirit. Participants will often enjoy a coffee together at the Readers cafe afterwards.

Mondays, 10 - 11am 

Term 1 commences 3 Feb

Where:

Corcoran Centre Parish Hall at the Immaculate Conception Church

Cost:

$15 per class

Creative children's workshops

Workshops are run as themed classes with the use of props and costumes. Integrating stories, music and movement to engage and challenge creatively in a safe and inclusive atmosphere.

Please get in touch to discuss your needs, workshops can be designed for specific groups and their needs.

Dance For Parkinson's & mobility

A mostly seated class with some supported exercises. This class is for people living with Parkinsons disease and other mobility challenges. Participants can bring a carer or partner if desired. Classes provide a social environment for participants to interact with other community members, and to share a positive, stimulating activity together with their partners. Enjoy connecting over refreshments at the end of each class.

This is part of the internationally recognised Dance for PD program. Suzanne Pettit runs this class collaboratively with Mikola Lea. Both teachers have completed their Dance for PD Teacher Training. 

When:

Fridays, 10 - 11am with refreshments afterwards

Term 1 commences 7 Feb

Where:

Corcoran Centre Parish Hall at the Immaculate Conception Church

Cost:

$15 plus $5 for carers or partners per class

About

Suzanne Pettit is an experienced and qualified dance instructor and professionally trained ballet dancer with extensive experience teaching classical ballet, contemporary, folk and jazz dance styles for all ages and varying abilities. Suzanne has owned and operated a successful dance studio in the Hunter Valley for more than 30 years, taught in local schools, nursing homes and danced professionally internationally and across Australia. She brings her many years of expertise, passion and creativity to share the holistic benefits of dance to the wider community.

Qualifications 

Cecchetti Ballet Qualifications 

  • Fellowship. F.C.B.A.-C.I.C.B. Principal, teacher, choreographer.

  • Licentiate Diploma in Cecchetti History and Anatomy (Distinction)

  • Advanced II Ballet (Highly Commended)

Workplace and Training Qualifications 

  • 2013 Cert IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110) 

  • 2013 Cert IV in Dance Teaching and Management (CUA40211)

  • Workplace First Aid Cert Level 2/Senior

  • Dance For Parkinson’s Teacher Training 2018

  • Newcastle TAFE 2018: Teaching Movement and Dance for Wellbeing
